Jazz Education Network 2018

Jan 3 | Posted by: Robert Sabin

I will be appearing at this year's JEN conference in Dallas, Tx presenting a bass clinic and research paper.  At 9am I will present a clinic for non-bassists entitled "Getting Friendly with the Low End" which is desigbned to be a large group lesson for anyone wondering about the bass, how to make it sound good in an ensemble, and tips for adopting an open and outward mindset toward all of the instruments in the rhythm section.

At noon I will present a paper that looks at tonic minor improvisation in early bebop (1940-49).  This work deals with the various macroharmonies that comprise line playing, and approches new conceptual tools in describing the essentially rhythmic nature of linear harmony. This paper will be uploaded to this site in the coming months.

Hope to see you there!
